Current Courses

  • Broadcast Opportunities Course (March to July 2010).

Redstone FM has received funding to run a further 'Broadcast Opportunities' course. The course is specifically for visually impaired persons and those with other disabilities and will teach basic radio production techniques plus sessions on developing CVs and job interview skills. The course is run in conjunction with Meridian FM who will provide broadcast opportunities for students. The course runs from February to July 2010. Click here for further details.

  • Short Courses  (April to June 2010)

Redstone FM is organising a series of short one and two days courses covering social networking and media survival. These are being run in conjunction with NESCOT. Full details and application form will be added here once confirmed.

Broadcast Opportunities Course Details.
The Broadcast Opportunities Course is being run by Redstone FM, the local community radio station for Reigate and Banstead in conjunction with Meridian FM (East Grinstead). The course will run from February to July 2010. This is a FREE course specifically for visually impaired persons and those with other disabilities.

Course Objectives
Students will learn basic production and presentation skills together with an overview of the radio industry before having an opportunity to contribute to broadcasts on a local community radio station. In particular, students will gain an understanding of:

  • The techniques of writing for radio

  • The techniques for conducting a radio interview
  • The laws of contempt, libel and other restrictions on broadcasters.
  • The structure of the radio industry
  • The techniques for writing a CV
  • Presentation techniques

By the end of the course, students will have:

  • Produced a range of radio interviews and features 

  • Produced scripts and associated paperwork for a range of radio interviews and features
  • Completed a written law assignment
  • Produced a CV and undertaken mock a job interview
  • Contributed to community radio broadcasts on Meridian FM (East Grinstead).
